Jacob’s citizenship documents

Last edit of this page 2021.NOV.30

It was not easy for Jacob to become a citizen of the United States.

This is the cover of his initial application in 1902, done at Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Alas, his application was rejected on the basis of his inability to read English.

He applied again in 1904, this time from Sunbury in Northumberland County.

The information on date of birth, place of landing, and date of landing are suspect. This is the only place in which he lists his residence in Mt. Carmel. This town is in Northumberland County, and he may have needed to claim a residence in the Sunbury’s county.

The application was successful, done at Sunbury, Pennsylvania, on December 6, 1904.
